As founder and president of Step by Step Foundation, I’d like to express my sincere gratitude, especially during the delicate economic situation, the support and generosity that you have shown us over the past years with your collaboration with Step by Step. The final objective of the Foundation -to improve the quality of life of those with spinal cord injuries who receive treatment at Step by Step and their families-, is today, thanks to your contributions, somewhat closer. We are proud to be able to count on your support.

I’d like to make a commitment on my personal behalf and on behalf of those who collaborate with Step by Step Foundation, to work together with strength and honesty to continue helping the maximum number possible of spinal cord injured.
With this reason, one of the Foundation’s objectives is to prioritize the field of research in spinal cord injury. We have a scientific committee comprised of the Board members and professionals of high prestige in the field of research in regeneration of the nervous system. We will keep those with injuries up to date on the latest advances in this field, support prominent studies and promote new lines of research in spinal cord injuries.

We will not disappoint you with the trust that you have placed in us. Any progress of a spinal cord injured, however small, is received as a great success for all of us at the Foundation.

I’m grateful for your support and wishing to renew your trust this year,

Frederic Crespo
President of Step by Step Foundation

Step by Step Foundation has been included in Asepeyo’s network of affiliated healthcare providers as a center specialized in physiotherapy treatment for those with spinal cord injuries. A spinal cord injured with a policy at ASEPEYO will benefit from the signing of this agreement.

Asepeyo is an insurance company specialized in accidents at work and work related illnesses. It is one of the most important insurance companies nationally and we are hoping that this will be a beginning of future collaborations with other insurance providers.

Gas Gas pilot, Laia Sanz, renews her victory at Dakar 2012 and Step by Step Foundation shows support as a sponsor. The 26 year old Catalan pilot is the only female rider to finish the Dakar this year and we are celebrating her victory at Step by Step Foundation.

At Step by Step Foundation, we also like to spend time together outside of the center and periodically organize social and sports-related outings. To kick-start the year, we organized a guided visit and a chocolate tasting activity at the Chocolate Museum in central Barcelona. The event sold out and visitors went home content after learning about the history of chocolate and tasting its different varieties

This year marks the 4th year that Renfe participates in the development of Step by Step Foundation’s task and the 3rd for HCC Global.

The Foundation’s principal objectives is to be able to offer a quality treatment for all those with spinal
cord injuries interested in coming to the center. The Foundation requires support from everyone as currently the Foundation subsidizes over 50% of the treatment cost. For this reason, the continuous support of companies such as Renfe and HCC Global are important in financing this project. Renfe is a clear example of a company committed to the quality of life of the spinal cord injured and plans on implementing accessible trains for all lines by 2020.

Step by Step designates 1 hour each week to answer all types of inquiries online

Since its opening, there is a growing tendency to the number of inquiries online about the Foundation. With more than 1200 contacts in its social network, the Foundation has decided to designate an hour each week to answer all types of inquiries. With this initiative, the Foundation wishes to reach out to prospective visitors and those who have an interest in the Foundation and its activities on a more personal level. Currently this service is under a trial period and depending on the response, the Foundation will make adjustments to the service.

Our friends from Llar de l’Amistat tells us about a typical day for Modibo Touré, including his treatment session at the Foundation

A lot of things have changed since Modibo first arrived in Mataró in 2005. Since then he has met a lot of new people who are now his closest supporters and takes part in numerous activities at his current residence. In 2007, he was invited to the annual TV3 gala to select the Catalan of the Year award. Modibo has been receiving weekly rehabilitation at Step by Step Foundation for over 2 years and the Foundation subsidizes 100% of his cost of treatment as part of the scholarship program for spinal cord injured from developing countries.

Step by Step Foundation participates in the work group coordinated by Federación ECOM for accessibility in the public transport system of Barcelona

In 1986, the city of Barcelona was selected as a host city for the Summer Olympic Games of ’92, which led to new infrastructure and pushed forward projects to create an accessible city for all prospective visitors. Currently, Barcelona is one of Europe’s better adapted cities for wheelchair users.

TMB, the company responsible for the entire public transport network of the city of Barcelona, has joined forces with Federación Ecom to reach a wider network of users and to implement necessary changes for those with reduced mobility. Step by Step Foundation is part of this work group to improve accessibility in the city’s public transportation system.

Charity Dinner 2011 leads to the mayor’s visit to establish possible collaborations

Since the Foundation first opened its doors, the Foundation and the Hospitalet city council have always kept good contact. The mayor of Hospitalet, Mrs. Núria Marín has always been present at our public events such as the annual charity dinner and recently Mrs. Marín visited the center with Mr. Joan Martorell, President of the Chamber of Commerce of Barcelona.

A spinal cord injured from Step by Step at the Dubai Marathon

Happy news from Dubai:  A spinal cord injured who received treatment last summer at Step by Step Foundation sent us his photo from the Dubai Marathon. His desire to fight and achieve a better quality of life is admirable and an example to follow.
